Sultana Begum

Sultana Begum, a resident of Sarwar Nagar, slum of Zirra, Old City of Hyderabad, a predominately Muslim dominated area. The family conditions forced Sultana to get married at the age of 17 years with a contract worker. A dropout from 7th standards without any skills, soon after 6 years of marriage, Sultana become a widow, as her husband died in a accident, leaving Sultana and two children alone. Mahita team members identified her during a community meeting at the slum, and motivated her to join vocational skills at the Mahita’s Vocational Training Center. Against all the happenings of her life, Sultana completed her course successfully and got a bank loan for purchase of Pico and Embroidery Machine and initiated a unit at home. Now Sultana become popular among community members of her areas, for her commitment and professional skills, which enhanced her earnings gradually from Rs. 1000 a month to Rs. 3000 per mont
